Celebrity in dreams is never only a person; it is a relationship-function given a face. The figure may be literal, remembered, projected, invented or archetypal, but it usually carries a character in the continuity hypothesis sense: someone who carries the emotional concerns currently active in the dreamer's waking life. People dreams are among the most continuous with waking life: the psyche returns to characters because they hold unfinished feeling, attachment pressure, authority, grief, desire or the shape of a self not yet integrated.
